Fred Unwalla
Raphaël Freeman is a master typesetter. His first volume for us was a fiendishly complicated thirteenth-century grammar in Latin, Hebrew, and Anglo-Norman French that had defeated not a few others. A study of a sixteenth-century polyglot bible, containing appropriately multiple languages, and an edition of a philosophical quodlibet with extensive textual and source notes soon followed, along with a formidable collection of essays and a monograph on medieval illuminated manuscripts, both with sweeping illustration programs. Although each book in this impressive range is unique in its requirements, the typeset page everywhere reveals a concordance of form and content, joining intelligibility to material expression. To his devotion to the craft, Rafaël also brings considerable technical expertise, a resourcefulness in meeting unexpected challenges, and an unusual desire constantly to improve his labours and our own. We cannot recommend Renana Typesetting too highly.
