We offer a professional indexing service integrated with the typesetting of your book. The index is prepared for your review early in production, with headings, subheadings and cross-references tailored to the manuscript.

A complete index for you to review

After the first draft of the text is typeset, we send you a complete, editable Word index with provisional page references. You can review the headings, suggest additions or deletions, and adjust the wording. The provisional numbers let you check the passages while there is still time to refine the index.

After balancing, we update and verify the page references against the final layout, preserving your agreed changes. Because the index has already been prepared and reviewed, it can be finalised with the book. There is no need to wait for a separate indexing stage to begin once the pages are balanced.

Useful in print – and on Kindle

When we prepare your index, we retain its connections to the actual passages. If we also produce your Kindle edition, those connections allow us to make an index that takes readers to the relevant discussion, including material in notes, with a route back to the index. The destination is checked against the passage, rather than simply the first occurrence of a word on a printed page.
