Hebrew Voices – Adventures in Hebrew Typesetting.

When my brother-in-law, Nehemia Gordon approached me about doing a podcast on his Hebrew voices podcast, I was a little anxious and excited at the same time.

I told some stories about my previous work at the Jerusalem Post, work on Encyclopedia Judaica and at Koren highlighting some of the technical and technological challenges that we face as typesetters especially when dealing with speciality typesetting such as biblical typesetting.

In one story (at 23:30), I explain in detail how we went about digitizing the font of the famous Koren Bible and challenges in the process. We talk about Microsoft Volt and our problems with kerning and avoiding collisions. Nehemia is an excellent host and translates the typesetting jargon to the listeners as we go along.

At around (45:00) we talk about why we typeset in Adobe InDesign rather than just formatting in Microsoft Word.

If you have a book that needs typesetting, then please feel free get in touch with us to discuss your requirements.
